Davidson County Courthouse - Renovations & Additions
Lexington, NC
RAMSAY BURGIN SMITH initially worked with Davidson County on the Master Plan for the County Judicial
Complex
that included Two Existing Courthouses and attached Jail Facility. The task at hand was not only to consolidate
all Court Related Departments currently scattered around in at least four locations but to add 5 Court Rooms and
connect and coordinate circulation to and from the Existing Courthouse Facilities. Each Existing Courthouse
Facility faced opposite sides of the City Block and the proposed 3-Story Addition brings these facilities
together and creates a prominent new main entry on Center Street.
Master Planning involved several schemes of how best to develop this City Block - in what order to proceed and
how to Phase the Project, all while still considering Future Expansion needs. Option F was ultimately selected
by the County Commissioners. RBSA teamed with Barnhill Contracting Company for a Construction Manager at Risk
delivery method for this facility. The project was completed in January 2021.
